Research Interests

Dr. Segall's research interests include data mining, text mining, web mining, big data, bioinformatics, supercomputing applications and mathematical modeling. He is the author or co-author of 50 journal articles, 21 chapters of books, 72 conference proceedings, 90 conference presentations and 14 technical reports, recipient of numerous grants including that for software from ORACLE Corporation and SAS Institute, Inc., and has co-edited 5 books titled:  Research and Applications in Global Supercomputing” in 2015, and "Visual Analytics and Interactive Technologies: Data, Text and Web Mining Applications” in 2011, and “Handbook on Big Data Storage and Visualization Techniques” in 2018,  "Open Source Software for Statistical Analysis of Big Data: Emerging Research and Opportunities"  in 2020, and "Biomedical and Business Applications Using Artificial Neural Networks and Machine Learning" published in 2022, all by IGI Global.

Biography

Dr. Segall has taught over 25 years at several universities including that of Texas Tech University, University of Louisville, University of New Hampshire, University of Massachusetts-Lowell, and West Virginia University. He is the recipient of three research awards from the National Research Council (NRC) that has funded his research at Brooks AFB in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Segall also has received funding from the Arkansas Biosciences Institute (ABI) and Arkansas Science and Technology Authority (ASTA) and was a member of the Arkansas Center for Plant-Powered Production (P3) Center, and is currently a member of Center for No-Boundary Thinking (CNBT).

He is also Affiliated Faculty in the Master of Engineering Management (MEM) Program that was originally a joint-degree plan with the A-STATE College of Business, and Affiliated Faculty in the Environmental Sciences Program, and Affiliated Faculty at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) where he serves on thesis committees. He is also on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Data Science (IJDS) and International Journal of Data Mining, Modelling and Management (IJDMMM).
