Biography

Dr. Heidi Banse is presently Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Arkansas State University.  She graduated from Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007.  She then completed an internship in Large Animal Medicine and Surgery at the University of Georgia, followed by a combined residency (equine internal medicine) and PhD program (Veterinary Biomedical Sciences) at Oklahoma State University.  In 2013, she moved to the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada as an Assistant Professor of Veterinary Therapeutics.  In 2017, she moved to Louisiana State University as an Assistant Professor of Equine Medicine.  While at LSU, she was promoted to Associate Professor of Equine Medicine and transitioned into educational leadership as Associate Dean for Educational Strategy.  In this role, she spearheaded the implementation of a new competency-based veterinary curriculum.  She is a member of the American Association of Veterinary Medical College’s Council on Outcomes-based Veterinary Education (COVE) and the Spectrum of Care Initiative.  Her research interests include veterinary education (clinical skills and curriculum design) and clinical medicine (equine glandular gastric disease and equine endocrinology).
