We express appreciation and thanks to the staff in Facilities Management, Information Technology, University Police and all other campus personnel who responded rapidly and effectively Thursday after a thunderstorm and high wind damaged campus facilities.  Due to their fast work and coordination with contractors, displaced employees were ready to return to work Monday in adapted spaces, while repairs are already well underway.

Approximately 50 staff members in  the Administration Building have moved to temporary quarters while repairs and rehabilitation are completed in areas damaged during the storm that hit campus Thursday. Staff in Human Resources, Budget, and Payroll Offices have moved to Ellis Library, 6th floor.  Finance and Administration Office staff members have moved to the Administration Annex and alternate spaces in the Administration Building.  Marketing and Communications staff moved to the Arkansas Biosciences Institute; the Creative Media group moved to the Ellis Library, 1st floor. Dr. Kat Lecky, assistant professor of English, won the inaugural Snyder Prize for most outstanding research paper at the Biennial Medieval and Renaissance Conference at New College of Florida.  The paper featured her book project, “The Laureate Poetics of Pocket Maps in Renaissance Britain.”  Portions of the book are published or forthcoming in top journals in her field, and a major university press has recruited it for publication.

Three faculty members in the Arkansas Biosciences Institute at A-State are serving this summer as mentors for the latest group of recipients of ABI’s Biotechnology Research Internships.  Dr. Maureen Dolan, research assistant professor, Dr. Fabricio Medina-Bolivar, research associate professor, and Dr. Shiguang Yu, research assistant professor, are the mentors.  The summer program provides financial support to undergraduate science majors seeking research experience in the life sciences.  Read more about the selections.

A research study by Dr. Roy Aldridge, professor of physical therapy, was featured in Monday’s edition of The Jonesboro Sun.  Working with military veterans through the Beck PRIDE Center in the College of Nursing and Health Professions, Aldridge is comparing results from the use of hippotherapy, a treatment strategy that utilizes equine movement, with conventional physical therapy techniques.  The patient experiences a multi-dimensional movement, which can be very beneficial.
