Dr. Barbara M. Warner, assistant professor of political science, authored a chapter for a new book on civic education, developed through a collaboration of 21 scholars from seven states. Warner's chapter on enhancing civic participation through more effective county e-government is titled, "Encouraging Civic Participation of Citizens through County Websites: A Case Study of Arkansas." The book addresses the perceived crisis in American civic literacy.

Dr. Argelia Lorence, professor of metabolic engineering, presented the keynote address for PhenoDays, a premier conference in Munich, Germany, that focuses on plant high-throughput phenotyping. She presented progress achieved by the team she leads at A-State as part of the Plant Imaging Consortium, a National Science Foundation-funded group of Arkansas and Missouri-based scientists, to education and industry representatives from 32 countries. She also helped shape the conference program.

Dr. Lance G. Bryant, professor of physical education, is co-author of an article in Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators. The article, "Using Social Media within Physical Education Teacher Education," describes how a professional Facebook group was used by students at a university in England and another at A-State to provide a collaborative forum for dialogue and exchanging ideas on teaching, learning and becoming a qualified teacher.

Work by Kimberly Boyd Vickrey, professor of graphic design, was accepted into an international poster competition at Mississippi State University. The Best-In-Show Exhibition was sponsored by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and Purina. Her accepted work was a poster photographed and designed to meet the theme of exploring bonds with man's best friend. Several of her advanced graphic design students were accepted into the student division of this exhibition.

At the Arkansas Association of College History Teachers meeting, Dr. Kellie Wilson Buford, assistant professor of history and director of the BSE program in social science, served on a panel that discussed integrating instructional technology into the history classroom. "No Phone Zone? Using Smart Phones to Create a More Engaging History Classroom" was the title of her presentation, which covered various uses for smartphones in college history classrooms.
