Hanrahan Recognized as NEA Visionary Hanrahan Recognized as NEA Visionary

Congratulations to Dr. Susan Hanrahan, dean, College of Nursing and Health Professions, who was featured in "12 Who Make it Happen," a Jonesboro Sun supplement that profiled "some of the hardworking visionaries" who are improving life in Northeast Arkansas. Hanrahan was noted for the passion she brings to everything she does, whether it's healthcare education at A-State or public service in the community and region. See it online.

 
Vinson Receives Kays Foundation Grant

The Kays Foundation approved a $5,000 grant to Kristie Vinson, assistant professor and clinical director of physical therapy. Vinson will acquire equipment for expanding learning opportunities for doctor of physical therapy and physical therapist assistant program students. The equipment being purchased is commonly used in the clinical setting, and will help students get better prepared for their careers. Details are in an online news release.

Miller Leading Choirs on Tour of Ireland Miller Leading Choirs on Tour of Ireland

Dr. Dale Miller, professor of music and director of choral activities, is leading an educational and performance tour of Ireland with the Concert Choir and Community Choir, which includes a number of alumni and community representatives. The itinerary includes the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin, and performances in Dungarvan, Waterford and Killarney. The 60-member group is participating in the American Celebration of Music in Ireland tour.

 
Pan and Hayes Co-Author Journal Publication

Dr. Po-Lin Pan (right), associate professor of  strategic communication, and Dr. Marceline Hayes, professor of communication studies and department chair, co-authored a paper in the Journal of International and Intercultural Communication. Using the interplay between social identity theory and terror management theory, their study examines how mortality salience in television news would activate more hostile attitudes toward immigrants and negative judgment on the immigration issue.

Hill Earns Management Accountant Designation Hill Earns Management Accountant Designation

Dr. Matthew Hill, assistant professor of finance, was recognized by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) for earning the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation. The CMA program validates mastery of the necessary skills to manage the finance functions of for-profits and non-profits. To earn the CMA, individuals must pass exams on a range of relevant topics. Hill plans to encourage students to take part in the IMA's student CMA program.
