Hendershot's Literature Book Published Hendershot's Literature Book Published

A book by Dr. Cyndy Hendershot, professor of English, has been published by A-State Digital Press. Western World Literature to 1660 is a digital textbook covering Western world literature from the ancient Greeks through the Renaissance. Some of the unique interactive features of the book include a Greek pronunciation guide. The volume also features several original illustrations by A-State student Hao Zheng.

 
Doering's Article on Tax Doctrine Published

Dr. James A. Doering, Jones/Schaaf Endowed Professor of Accounting, published the lead article in the November Taxes, The Tax Magazine. He examines the disagreement between the Sixth Circuit and the Tax Court as to whether the substance-over-form doctrine can be applied to Internal Revenue Code-compliant, tax-minimizing transactions involving a Domestic International Sales Corporation (DISC) that is indirectly owned by a Roth IRA.

Hall's Article Looks at 'Smart' Device Legal Issues Hall's Article Looks at 'Smart' Device Legal Issues

An article by Dr. Holly Hall, associate professor of strategic communication, was published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Media Law & Ethics. Hall analyzes Fourth Amendment questions that arise through the use of smart devices with speech recognition capability and storage. An example was an Arkansas criminal case where the defendant's Amazon Echo data was sought by law enforcement investigators. The journal is online.

 
Alam Publishes on Synthesizing Compounds

Dr. Mohammad Abrar Alam, assistant professor of chemistry, and his research group have published an article in the New Journal of Chemistry. They have developed a methodology to synthesize novel small molecule heterocycles as potential therapeutic agents. The group used readily available and inexpensive starting materials to synthesize a series of new compounds, which are being tested against various bacteria and several cancer cell lines. Johnson Leads Children's Advocacy Program Outreach

Dr. Kristin Johnson, assistant professor of psychology, worked with faculty in the school psychology program to conduct a public panel discussion, "Advocacy for Children with Special Needs." The moderator and panelists discussed a variety of advocacy issues of interest to professionals in several fields. In addition to those attending at A-State, educators at three other universities in Louisiana, Texas and Kentucky participated in the online discussions.
