Dr. Julie Lamb-Milligan, professor of gifted education, works with the Jonesboro Math and Science Magnet School to identify advanced learners for the summer enrichment program, "Flowering Minds Grow on a STEM." She and colleagues also train teachers to look for scholarship potential in advanced learners. In July, master's degree candidates will set up the camp and work with students on STEM-based lessons that encourage creative and critical thinking.

Dr. Farhad Moeeni, professor of computer and information technology, and Keane McGough, a former undergraduate CIT student, recently received a second utility patent. The system applies sensor-assisted methods that intelligently adapt to the audio/video streaming needs of a network and its subnetworks. One application is to facilitate the streaming needs of synchronous online courses.  The current patent extends the input methods to technologies beyond the initial RFID system.

Dr. Kristi Costello, assistant professor of composition and writing studies, has written a chapter, "Terms and Perceptions: Using Surveys to Discover Student Beliefs about Research," for Serviss and Jamieson's book on writing studies research. Her chapter describes her study of the perceptions, processes and feelings on research-based writing from 330 first-year students across two surveys and two fall terms, rooting the findings in current scholarship.

Shelley Gipson, associate professor of art, organized the Department of Art and Design's second Saturday "Open Studio Day" art activity. She and other departmental faculty welcomed alumni, students and the general public. Visitors produced their own prints during the "Valentine's Letterpress Extravaganza." They saw the newly acquired Chandler & Price press and had the opportunity to pull a Valentine's print.

Dr. Shane Hunt, R.M. "Bob" Wood Endowed Professor in Sales Leadership and professor of marketing, has been selected to participate in the National Security Seminar at the U.S. Army War College. The four-day seminar in early June is a capstone symposium for graduating Army War College students to examine national security issues and exchange candid dialogue with national authorities and invited guests.
