Dr. Mike McDaniel (left), professor of communication disorders, Dr. Susan Motts, associate professor of physical therapy, and Dr. Rick Neeley, professor of communication disorders, authored an invited editorial in The Hearing Journal. The editorial, "Hearing Aids and Balance Improvement," was an extension of their work on the controversy surrounding reported postural and stability benefits afforded through the use of conventional hearing aids.

Dr. Gregory Hansen, professor of folklore and English, recently presented "Applied Ethnomusicology and Public Folklore within Heritage Studies" at the annual meeting of the Society for Ethnomusicology, Southeast and Caribbean Chapter in New Orleans. Hansen also recently contributed a chapter, "Applications and Representations of the Uses of Folklore," to the Oxford Handbook of American Folklore and Folklife Studies.

Congratulations to Myra Goodwin, controller, Brandy Hampton, treasurer, and Dr. Russ Hannah, associate vice chancellor for finance. They have earned the Internal Control Certificate issued by the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO), comprised of five major accounting organizations. The certificate recognizes their demonstrated expertise in designing, implementing and monitoring a system of internal control. They have formed a work group with others on campus to focus on internal control.

Dr. Bill Smith, associate vice chancellor for marketing and communications, presented at the Council for Advancement and Support of Education District IV conference in Fort Worth. His topic was best practices for utilizing the campus CEO in university communication.  Breaking down leadership styles and strength in social media, "The Difference the Chancellor Makes" provided social media and communication professionals across the district with effective strategies.

Dr. Paula Ruby, professor of computer and information technology, has been invited to serve on the management information systems advisory board for Cengage Learning Publishing Co. She also recently reviewed the ninth edition of a textbook by Kathy Schwalbe, "Information Technology Project Management," for Cengage, an education and technology company that serves higher education, K-12, libraries and other markets.
