Dr. Maurice Gipson, vice chancellor for diversity and community engagement, has been selected by the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE) as one of four participants in the organization's prestigious Chief Diversity Officer Fellows Program for 2018-19. Gipson also recently made a presentation on developing campus leaders for the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in New Orleans.

Whitney Lumpkin (left), director of Sponsored Programs Accounting, along with staff members Chelsea Gambill and Ashley Pinkard, sponsored programs officers, conducted a half-day workshop at the National Council for University Research Administrators Region III annual conference in Williamsburg, Va. The focused workshop, "Post-Award Basics, Best Practices, and Communication Strategies," provided professionals from other universities with information regarding post-award grants and contracts management.

A book from the University of Georgia Press, Arkansas Women: Their Lives and Times, includes chapters by A-State faculty who document achievements by Arkansas women. The four and their respective topics are: Dr. Gary Edwards, associate professor of history, Amanda Trulock, a Connecticut native who became a plantation proprietor in the Old South; Dr. Michael Dougan, emeritus professor of history, Mary Sybil Kidd Maynard Lewis, a 1920s opera singer and recording artist; Dr. Sarah Wilkerson Freeman, professor of history, Hattie Caraway, the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate; and Dr. Loretta N. McGregor, professor of psychology, Dr. Mamie Katherine Phipps Clark, the first African American woman to earn a doctoral degree in psychology from Columbia University. Dr. Cherisse Jones-Branch and Edwards are co-editors. Robert R. Clark, director of Environmental Health and Safety, will make a presentation at the annual Campus Safety Health and Environmental Management Association (CSHEMA) conference in Baltimore this week. He will discuss details regarding the development of a laboratory safety program in a university setting. CSHEMA memberships includes safety professionals from higher education institutions across the country. Details are online.

David Handwork, assistant vice chancellor for Facilities Management, has received the Certified Educational Facilities Professional (CEFP) credential that is awarded by APPA, the association dedicated to leadership in educational facilities.  APPA issues the credential as a way to validate the unique knowledge and competency required of professionals in the field of educational facilities development and maintenance, and promotes mastery of the best management practices.
