Congratulations to Addie Fleming and Kayla Travis, assistant professors of nursing, who wrote the successful grant proposal to the Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas. The College of Nursing and Health Professions (CNHP) has received a $89,098 grant to purchase a pediatric simulator for the college’s SimBaby Project. The device, which represents a nine-month-old pediatric patient, provides a highly realistic manikin simulation that meets specific learning objectives, focusing on initial assessment and treatment. Dr. Elizabeth Hood, Samuel S. Lipscomb Professor in Agriculture, has been named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Her peers in AAAS made the selection, which is based in particular on her contributions to the fields of plant biotechnology and molecular biology. Hood will be recognized in February during the Fellows Forum at the AAAS annual meeting in Washington, D.C.

Rebecca Oliver, director, Honors College, participated in two panel presentations at the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) conference in Boston.  The first session highlighted the successful Honors Medal Campaign that has grown over the last three years. The second, "Creating Global Learning Opportunity for Honors with Faculty-Led Study Abroad," highlighted the Honors College trips to Europe in 2015 and 2017 and another planned for next year. Dr. Gregory Hansen, professor of English and folklore, will be the featured speaker for an exhibition of the written arts at Bradbury Art Museum, Thursday at 5:30 p.m. His presentation during the "Thursday at the Museum" event will include a discussion of the “ethnopoetics” of Richard Seaman’s storytelling, as well as his original work of fictionalized scholarship on the legend of Belle Gunness.

An article by Dr. Gustavo Iriarte, assistant professor of economics, A-State Campus Queretaro, was published in EconoQuantum, Journal of Economics and Business. The article, "Unemployment Transitions in the Mexican Labor Market and the Role of Job Search Channels," analyzes how different search channels increase the likelihood of unemployed individuals securing a job. Among the findings, he found females are more likely to get jobs through online offers.
