Alumnus Calls Lockhart His 'Saving Grace'
Congratulations to Jerrod Lockhart (left), student development specialist, Student Support Services, who was recognized for his dedication and inspiration by a former student. Andre Walker wrote an article for St. Louis American in which he recounted the difficulties he experienced as a student, but explained how Lockhart intervened with guidance and counseling. Lockhart's positive impact inspired Walker to co-found ManUpSTL, to help countless others.

Spence and Wakefield Discuss Assessment
Mary Elizabeth Spence (right), assistant director of assessment, and Elizabeth Wakefield, data analyst in the Provost’s Office, recently presented the emerging A-State student-learning assessment process at the Association for the Assessment of Learning in Higher Education (AALHE) conference in St. Paul, Minn. They also gave a poster presentation, "Faculty Engagement in Building an Institutional Assessment Process." Their data implies that overall, students are meeting expected learning outcomes.

Juarez Co-Authors Study of Black Holes
Maria Juarez, associate professor of physics and mathematics, A-State Campus Queretaro, is co-author of an article, “Microscopic entropy of higher-dimensional nonminimally dressed Lifshitz black holes,” that has been accepted for publication by the peer-reviewed Physical Review D. One of the reviewers explains that Lifshitz black holes have been studied for possible holographic connection to the behavior of strongly correlated non-relativistic condensed matter systems at a finite temperature.

James and Bevly Promote Student Workers
Erika James (right), student assistant specialist, and TJ Bevly, access and delivery services supervisor, Dean B. Ellis Library, presented “Investing in Your Student Workers,” during the annual Memphis Area Circulation Conference. Their session covered how engagement, activities and training for students help them socially and academically. They also discussed how library professionals can invest in their student employees to ensure positive outcomes.

Stripling is Presenter, and Joins HLC Peer Corps
Dr. Rick Stripling, associate professor of college student personnel services and executive director, student affairs project, was a co-presenter at the annual ACT Enrollment Management Summit in Dallas. He discussed "Concept to Commencement: How to Strategically Implement Enrollment Management and Student Success Initiatives." Also, Stripling has been selected to serve in the Peer Corps as a reviewer for The Higher Learning Commission.
