Zhou Awarded NIH R15 Research Grant
Dr. Guolei (Jason) Zhou, associate professor of cell and cancer biology, has been approved for a three-year, $419,190 R15 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Including this award and two previous NIH/AR INBRE grants, Zhou has secured over $1.1 million in NIH funding for ongoing research on cellular functions of the cytoskeletal protein CAP1, as well as its roles in breast and pancreatic cancer.

Wimpy Publishes on Using Statistical Models
An article co-authored by Dr. Cameron Wimpy, assistant professor of political science, was published in Political Science Research and Methods. In "Interpretation: The Final Spatial Frontier," Wimpy and the co-authors introduce a general approach to interpreting statistical models that account for interconnectivity between countries, states, people and other units. For example, they demonstrate how to extrapolate the degree to which democratic freedoms in one country affects neighboring countries.

Bahn Recognized as SBDC State Star
Robert Bahn, business consultant, Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center, was honored as Arkansas's 2019 State Star during a ceremony at America’s SBDC annual conference in Long Beach, Calif. Since 2009, he has assisted potential and current small business owners with planning, market research and funding. The State Star award, the highest accolade for SBDC employees, recognizes one exemplary performer in each state.

Gunnet-Shoval Joins Psychology Faculty
Dr. Karyn Gunnet-Shoval, a new assistant professor of psychology and coordinator of the online BA program in psychology, previously was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Psychology at Harvard University and an advanced postdoctoral clinical fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Her current research examines socio-cognitive ways to manage health and mental health concerns. She earned her Ph.D. at Lehigh.

Long is New Member of Art + Design Faculty
Dr. Leah Long has joined the Department of Art + Design as instructor of art history, and will teach courses on the art of the ancient Mediterranean and museum studies. After earning a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, she taught in the Classics Department at McMaster University and in the Art History Department at Virginia Commonwealth in Qatar. She is active in archaeological field projects in Turkey.
