Baker's Journal Article is Published
An article by Dr. Timberly L. Baker, associate professor of educational leadership, has been published in the refereed Journal of Negro Education, one of the oldest continuously published periodicals by and about black people. Baker's article offers a reframing of the deficit notions that often accompany African American students being overrepresented in suspension and expulsion for the disciplinary category of defiance. Wimpy's Article Published in Politics Journal
Dr. Cameron Wimpy, assistant professor of political science, is lead author of an article forthcoming in The Journal of Politics, one of the discipline's leading scholarly journals. In “X Marks the Spot: Unlocking the Treasure of Spatial-X Models,” Wimpy and his co-authors elucidate the application of different types of spatial econometric models, especially in regard to problems in political science and international relations.

Merten Presents Laser Ablation Research
Dr. Jonathan Merten, associate professor of chemistry, presented parts of his Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and National Science Foundation (NSF) research at the International Conference on Laser Ablation in Maui, Hawaii. He also presented his laser ablation research at a DTRA program review in Washington, D.C. Merten's research grant from the NSF Division of Chemistry was announced in September.

Short Story by Aryal is in Tint Journal
"Thapaliyaji the Social Worker," a short story by Dr. Khem Aryal, assistant professor of English, has been published in Tint Journal. The story, part of his series on the Nepalese diaspora in America, is available online. Also, his paper, "Away from Workshops of Empire: Reinventing Creative Writing for the 21st Century World," which he presented in Morocco for the Global Awareness Society International, is online in the proceedings.

Stripling Completes HLC Review Training
Dr. Rick Stripling, associate professor of college student personnel services and executive director, Student Affairs Project, recently completed the Standard and Open Pathways Training for New Peer Reviewers. The three days of training was conducted by the Higher Learning Commission staff in Chicago. Stripling will join a Higher Learning Commission team to conduct accreditation visits to various universities across the United States.
