Castro Writes on Technology in Latin America

An article by Dr. Justin Castro, associate professor of history and department chair, has been published in the peer-reviewed online historiographical journal History Compass. Castro's essay is titled "History of Technology in Nineteenth and Twentieth Century Latin America." The editors of the journal invite submissions from historians they think can best discuss recent trends and debates within specific historical fields of inquiry. The article is online.

Smith and KASU Staff Win Media Support Award Smith and KASU Staff Win Media Support Award

Congratulations to Mark Smith (left), station manager, Doreen Selden, director of underwriting, and Brandon Tabor, Morning Edition host, KASU radio, on the announcement of KASU as winner of the Media Support Award from Arkansas Delta Byways (ADB) at the association’s annual banquet. The award recognized KASU’s support and promotion of Arkansas PBS’s local screening of a portion of the Ken Burns documentary, “Country Music.”

 
Williams and Smith Receive Leadership Award

Dr. Lonnie Williams (left), special assistant to the chancellor, and Joshua Smith (right), assistant director, Multicultural Affairs, have been selected to receive the JV Educational Leadership Award. The honor is determined through a nomination and review process that considers such factors as professional technique, contribution to student retention, and dedication to their discipline through scholarly advancements. They will be recognized at a national conference in October.

Greenwalt and Students Attend Capital Forum Greenwalt and Students Attend Capital Forum

Dr. Bert Greenwalt, professor of agricultural economics, accompanied six College of Agriculture students to Washington, D.C., in late February. The group attended the U.S. Department of Agriculture Outlook Forum, and their tour stops included Capitol Hill, the Federal Reserve, and the American Farm Bureau Federation.  The trip was funded by College of Agriculture alumnus Randall Pope and the L.E. Brinkley Endowment for Student Development.

 
Patchell Sweeps SBC Coach of The Year Honors

Congratulations to Dr. Jim Patchell, head coach, track & field, who was named recipient of the Sun Belt Conference Men's and Women's Coach of the Year honors. Patchell led the A-State teams to their first sweep of the conference championships since 1998. The awards are determined by a vote of the league's head coaches. This was Patchell's eighth and ninth SBC Coach of the Year awards.
