Two grant proposals by Dr. Katherine Baker, assistant professor of art history, have been approved for funding by the board of the Kays Foundation. Baker's proposal for "A-State Art-in-a-Box," an outreach program for high school art students, and the "A-State Art Summer Residency," which will bring prospective students to campus as a recruitment initiative by the Department of Art + Design. The proposals were funded for $5,151 and $6,500, respectively.

Congratulations to Dr. Tarek Ragab, assistant professor of civil engineering, whose grant proposal to the Kays Foundation has been funded. Ragab's proposal, “Visually-enhanced structural analysis education using advanced structural software,” includes acquiring specialized structural analysis software. The software will have several features, including an easy and interactive user interface that can help with recruiting high school students by acquainting them with structural engineering analysis and design.

Congratulations to Sandra Combs, associate professor of multimedia journalism production, and Larz Roberts, instructor in multimedia journalism production, whose students won 20 awards in the annual contest conducted by the Arkansas College Media Association. Combs is adviser to The Herald, while Roberts is adviser to Red Wolf Radio and ASU-TV. Red Wolf Radio won the general excellence award as Radio Outlet of the Year, while ASU-TV and The Herald won second in general excellence in their respective competition categories. A feature about A-State's equine management program, including Malissa Meyer, instructor in animal science, and the recently gifted stallion Brahms, was published in Thoroughbred Daily News. In the article, Meyer discusses the unique challenges of leading an equine breeding program, now in its third year, in the current remote learning environment of the College of Agriculture. The first student-raised yearlings are due for public sale this fall.

Todd Clark, director, digital creative media, was elected to a two-year term as chair-elect of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District IV at the group's annual conference in Texas. After his term as chair-elect, he will serve a two-year term as district chair. CASE District IV serves educational advancement professionals at institutions in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
