Marsico Advocates for Digitized Collections
The American Journal of Botany has published research by Dr. Travis Marsico, professor of botany and curator of the STAR Herbarium, and a team of collaborators. In the article, they show the importance of all sizes of herbaria (plant natural history specimen collections) to the understanding of plant species distribution in space and time. Diana Soteropoulos, one of Marsico's Ph.D. students, is among the co-authors of the article.

Pace-Glover is Co-Presenter at Conference
Dr. Tamara Pace-Glover, assistant professor of social work, made a co-presentation recently with colleagues from Niagra and Jackson State at the annual Council on Social Work Education virtual conference. Their presentation, "Service Inequity: Families Caring for Children with Mental Health Challenges," highlighted the complex needs of families who care for children with mental health challenges. Their research also highlights inequities in providing appropriate services.

Shew Co-Authors International Rice Study
Dr. Aaron Shew, assistant professor and R.E.L. Wilson Chair of Agricultural Economics, is co-author of an article just published in Agricultural Systems. Working with scientists from Kansas State and the International Rice Research Institute, the researchers' article is titled "Crop diversification in rice-based systems in the polders of Bangladesh: Yield stability, profitability, and associated risk." Their work is now available online.

Davis, Saarnio and Weaver Co-Author Article
Dr. Sharon Davis (right), professor of counseling, Dr. David Saarnio, professor of psychology, and clinical mental health counseling student Emily Weaver are the authors of an article recently featured in Counseling Today, which is published by the American Counseling Association. Their article, "DXM: A drug in plain sight," examines the potential dangers and abuse of a drug commonly found in over-the-counter cough medicines.

Camden is Among New Faculty This Year
Welcome to Katie Camden, assistant professor of nursing, who joined A-State's School of Nursing faculty this year. After finding her passion and commitment to nursing education while working on her bachelor's degree, Camden earned a master's and will graduate this spring with a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in healthcare systems leadership from Chamberlain University. Her teaching specialties include health assessment and medical-surgical nursing.
