A choral composition by Dr. Derek M. Jenkins, assistant professor of music theory and composition, has been named a semi-finalist for The American Prize in Choral Composition​. The piece, commissioned by Dr. Ryan Sullivan, director of choral activities, and the A-State Choirs, is dedicated to the memory of former student Jeffrey Steward. Eye on Psi Chi, the magazine of the International Honor Society in Psychology, featured an interview with Dr. Loretta Neal McGregor, professor of psychology, as part of its Black History Month coverage. McGregor shared her views on several subjects, including her work in experimental psychology, mentoring students effectively, challenges for women of color, and leadership in the academic discipline. Dr. Claudia Benavides-Ambs, associate professor of sport management, has joined the coaches at the National Center for Faculty Diversity and Development, which is dedicated to helping individuals with transitions throughout their academic careers. With an interest in advancing diversity in academia and the community, she has chaired the Diversity and Affirmative Action Shared Governance Committee and serves on the Jonesboro Public Schools Diversity Committee.

Jim Brown, director, First National Bank Arena, has been chosen to serve as state representative for the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM). As Arkansas' representative, Brown will serve as point of contact for venues located across the state. Through this position he will further develop connections among fellow members, build stronger connections, and improve communications among industry professionals. Brown is an IAVM certified venue executive (CVE).

Dr. Matthew Hill, associate professor of finance and director of the graduate program in business, will become faculty adviser to the Graduate Student Council (GSC) next month. The GSC serves as a bridge between graduate students and university administration. Hill will help the GSC benchmark A-State’s graduate assistant compensation relative to comparable universities, as well as provide a strategic review of the research resources available to graduate students.
