Buckley Invited to Exhibit Work in South Korea Buckley Invited to Exhibit Work in South Korea

Cameron Buckley, assistant professor of game design and new media, was invited to present a solo exhibition of his artwork at the Czong Institute for Contemporary Art (CICA) in Gimpo-Si, South Korea. The exhibition, titled “Old Media,” will be June 20-July 10. It is a collection of his new video and installation works, which investigates relationships to media and technology through the loneliness and isolation of the pandemic, and our reliance on nostalgia and cultural iconography to compartmentalize our emotional reactions.

 
Juarez Presents Research Colloquium in California

Dr. Maria Montserrat Juarez Aubry, associate professor of mathematics and physics, Campus Queretaro, recently presented a colloquium for the physics department at San Diego State University. She discussed “Black holes and the laws of thermodynamics” in her invited talk for the audience of juniors, seniors and graduate students in physics. She also was commended for helping promote scholarly collaborations with U.S. institutions and helping familiarize others with A-State CQ.

Kemp to Serve as Journal's Associate Editor Kemp to Serve as Journal's Associate Editor

Dr. Brandon A. Kemp, professor of electrical engineering and Verbeth and Henry Ezra Coe Professor of Engineering, has accepted an invitation to serve as an associate editor for the journal Progress in Electromagnetics Research (PIER).  PIER was founded in the 1980s by Kemp’s Ph.D. adviser, Jin Au Kong, Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor and founding editor-in-chief.  PIER publishes peer-reviewed, original articles on all aspects of electromagnetic theory and technologies.

 
Baker Publishes Work on Dissertation in Practice Baker Publishes Work on Dissertation in Practice

Dr. Timberly Baker, associate professor of educational leadership, is co-author of a new journal article in collaboration with Dr. Joy Howard, a colleague from the University of Southern Indiana. They examined how EdD programs can work toward community-engaged scholarship that supports a dissertation in practice. Their work, titled “Activating activism within the EdD: Connecting DiP Research and the community,” was published in Impacting Education.

 
Hansen Organizes Delta Symposium Online

Dr. Gregory Hansen, professor of English and folklore, has chaired the Delta Symposium Committee for several years, but he has had a new challenge in 2021. Although it was canceled last year in the early wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Delta Symposium XXVI, “The Haunted South,” will proceed in a virtual format next month, April 15-17. Hansen and the committee have announced guest writers and posted the schedule of presentations at AState.edu/Delta-Symposium.
