A paper by Dr. Hilary Schloemer (left), assistant professor of management, and Dr. John Mello (right), professor of supply chain management, has been published in International Journal of Logistics Management. Using a revelatory case study approach, they examined organizational climate and subcultures in a logistics setting. They found a firm’s organizational climate can contribute to formation and strengthening of a subculture, which may insert its own values and norms that run counter to the company’s.

Dr. Bruce Faske, assistant professor of music, was invited to present a series of face-to-face music master classes with trombone studios at Auburn, Alabama, and Southern Mississippi. He fielded questions from undergraduate and graduate trombone students about higher education careers and music performance, and coached students on prepared music material. At Alabama, he also was able to shadow the trombone professor in one-on-one applied lessons with students.

Six faculty members and one graduate student from the College of Sciences and Mathematics attended the Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s (WPI) Project-Based Learning (PBL) Institute. Drs. Hashim Ali, John Artim, Travis Marsico, Lori Neuman-Lee, Lisa Rice and Virginie Rolland, along with graduate student Emily Donahue, participated in the four-day workshop to learn more about implementing PBL in various courses, including developing an action plan for incorporating PBL practices and plans for scaling up PBL. On the last day, they presented their plan to the entire WPI PBL institute.

A project developed under the guidance of Dr. Bernardo Pérez Zamorano, clinical faculty in biotechnology, Campus Queretaro, has been accepted for presentation at the annual Gulf Coast Undergraduate Research Symposium this weekend at Rice University. Pérez commended recently graduated CQ students, Sebastían Carrillo Aguilar, Ximena Vargas Estrada and Sofía Alfaro Cortés, for their work on the project. Vargas will give a face-to-face talk to peers and faculty mentors in the “biosciences: biochemistry and cell biology” section of the symposium.
