Jiang Serves on NSF Panels, IEEE Awards Group Jiang Serves on NSF Panels, IEEE Awards Group

Dr. Hai Jiang, professor of computer science, has been invited multiple times for National Science Foundation grant proposal panel reviews, including those for NSF CAREER Award, and has chaired the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ technical committee on scalable computing's outstanding Ph.D. dissertation award selection committee since 2017. He also is general chair for the 23rd IEEE International Conference on High Performance Computing and Communication.

Tusalem Analyzes Legislative Effectiveness

A peer-reviewed article by Dr. Rollin F. Tusalem, associate professor of political science and MA program director, was published in the international journal Government and Opposition. In “Bringing the Legislature Back In: Examining the Structural Effects of National Legislatures on Effective Democratic Governance," Tusalem employs a cross-national panel data design study to examine if nation states with stronger legislatures perform more effectively. The article is online.

Hansen’s Folklore Chapter is Published Hansen’s Folklore Chapter is Published

Dr. Gregory Hansen, professor of folklore and English, recently published a chapter in Advancing Folkloristics published by Indiana University Press. His contribution is “Infusing Public Folklore Work into Academe: Experiencing the In-Between.” Hansen explores the interanimation between academic and applied research as his chapter examines ways to use folklore resources for community engagement. Insights gained from public presentations of culture, consequently, provide tangible resources for academic inquiry.

 
Hossain Co-Edits Transportation Solutions Book

Dr. Zahid Hossain, associate professor of civil engineering, is co-editor of "Finding Solutions of the 21st Century Transportation Problems Through Research and Innovations,” published by Springer. This book contains 11 papers accepted and presented at the GeoChina International Conference on Civil and Transportation Infrastructures: From Engineering to Smart and Green Life Cycle Solutions, held in Nanchang. The book offers recommendations for solving contemporary transportation problems.

Aryal Elected to Creative Writing Studies Board Aryal Elected to Creative Writing Studies Board

Dr. Khem Aryal, assistant professor of English, has been elected to a two-year term on the board of directors of the Creative Writing Studies Organization. He will serve as membership chair and as a member of the editorial board for the organization's publication, Journal of Creative Writing Studies, as a reviewer. Creative Writing Studies Organization examines theories and practices of creative writing and advances understanding of creative writing as a discipline.
