An article co-authored by Dr. Selye Lee, assistant professor of criminology, and director of the criminal justice graduate program, has been accepted for publication in the journal Crime and Delinquency. The authors examined the relationship between poor parenting, frustration, impulsivity, and underage drinking. Based on the theoretical framework of Agnew’s general strain theory (GST), their research study tested three structural models with national youth data.

Dr. Manu Bhandari, associate professor of strategic communication, is the lead author of a paper published in Newspaper Research Journal. Former master's student Matthew Emery and Dr. Sarah Scott, assistant professor of communication studies, are co-authors. Using an online experiment, the researchers examined the effects of online news commenter sex cues (male vs. female commenter names) and news receiver sex on perceived commenter credibility. Their paper is now available online.

Dr. Joel Gambill, emeritus associate professor of journalism, retired in 2010, but he has never been forgotten by friends and the hundreds of students who came through the program during his tenure and leadership as department chair. At the recent celebration of The Herald’s 100th anniversary, Dr. Brad Rawlins, director of the School of Media and Journalism, announced a journalism scholarship has been endowed in Gambill’s name. This was also a good year for Dr. Rick Neeley, emeritus professor of communication disorders. Former and current members of the campus chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association announced recently it had achieved its goal to recognize Neeley, one of their favorite faculty members, by endowing a scholarship in his name. Neeley joined the faculty in 1987 and also served many years as department chair. Details are online.
