Dr. Khem K. Aryal, assistant professor of English, has contracted with Texas Review Press of Sam Houston State University to publish an edited anthology of short stories and essays by authors of South Asian heritage in the American South. The anthology will depict diverse facets of South Asian experiences, some of which relate to what the immigrants have left behind, while others spotlight their struggles reconciling with the unexpected.

Dr. Katherine Baker, assistant professor of art history, has been accepted as a contributor to the digital project DALME, or Documentary Archaeology of Late Medieval Europe. Supported by major institutions and organizations, DALME is described as a collaborative, cross-disciplinary project that seeks to increase understanding of Europe’s material horizons during the later Middle Ages. A chapter written by Dr. Bill Stroud, professor of geography, is included in a book just published, Justice in Climate Action Planning. In his chapter, Stroud focuses on the case of pre-platted communities that were built in the 1950s and 1960s without adequate regard for climate change considerations. Developers were focused instead on aesthetics and the value of amenities in southwest Floridian landscapes.

Dr. Ferebee Tunno, associate professor of statistics, and former faculty member Dr. Latia Carraway, now at Valley View High, co-authored a paper accepted for publication in Communications in Statistics: Case Studies and Data Analysis. They present a new way to measure the volatility of financial time series, which is shown to be on a par with arc length for such endeavors. An application involving the clustering of 30 prominent stocks is presented as well.

Dr. David Pearlman, associate professor of hospitality management, and hospitality and event tourism management program director, is co-author of an article published in the International Journal of Hospitality Management. The authors used critical mass theory to show how the #MeToo movement, largely through its impact on news coverage of historically underreported sexual harassment of women, fostered legislation to deal with the problem in the hospitality industry.
