Dr. Timberly L. Baker, associate professor of educational leadership, presented two papers, was a panelist, and presented a workshop at the largest annual educational research conference, the American Educational Research Association International Conference in San Diego. Her presentations included a quantitative analysis of the impact of state takeover of a school district, and a conceptual paper addressing the need for more race-conscious approaches in rural educational scholarship.

Dr. Hrishikesh Desai, assistant professor of accounting, gave a presentation on building a blockchain-infused accounting curriculum at the ARCPA Accounting Educators Conference. Using the diffusion of innovation theory, he discussed the need for blockchain technology and its use cases to be incorporated into accounting curricula. He also co-authored a paper for the Asia-Pacific Journal of Accounting & Economics, examining an ongoing debate on managerial practice regarding timely disclosure of bad news.

An article co-authored by Dr. Colleen McNickle, assistant professor of music education and associate director of choral activities, has been accepted for publication by the Choral Journal. In the cover article, “Social Emotional Learning for Choirs,” the authors share methods choir teachers may use to imbed social emotional learning in their everyday interactions with students, in order to benefit the social, emotional and musical elements of a choral classroom.

Dr. Amy Hyman, assistant professor of disaster preparedness and emergency management, is co-author of an article published in Water Resources Research. The researchers analyzed how perceptions of a risk communicator’s attributes affect a water contamination emergency response in Boston. Hyman also made a presentation to the FEMA Emergency Management Higher Education Symposium in Maryland on how to create more engaging online courses for emergency management faculty.
