Boves Contributes Research to Bird Study
Dr. Than Boves, associate professor of avian ecology, was one of the scientists from leading bird and wildlife research and conservation groups who published a study modeling a novel approach to mapping seasonal migration pathways for birds. Boves contributed his expertise to the study, in Ecological Applications, along with migratory data he and students have collected on the prothonotary warbler. His lab has studied the warbler for nearly a decade.

Izadyar and Colleagues Publish Research
Congratulations to Dr. Anahita Izadyar, associate professor of chemistry, who with several colleagues has authored an article for the peer-reviewed Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture. She is corresponding author, and Dr. Elizabeth E. Hood, Lipscomb Distinguished Professor, Dr. Ilwoo Seok, associate professor of mechanical engineering, and undergraduates My Ni Van, Marcela Miranda and Scout Weatherford are co-authors of this publication.

Rawlins Elected to Accreditation Council
Dr. Brad Rawlins, professor and director, School of Media & Journalism, was elected to represent the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication (ASJMC) on the Accrediting Council for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC). This position is part of the executive committee of ASJMC, for which he served as president in 2015-16. The School of Media and Journalism earned reaccreditation this year.

Hansen Co-Edits Book on Heritage Support
Dr. Gregory Hansen, professor of folklore and English, is a co-editor of Sustaining Support for Intangible Cultural Heritage. The book provides case studies that pertain to sustainable approaches for safeguarding heritage. Hansen contributed a chapter on “Bluegrass Monday,” which is produced by KASU-FM public radio, and also offered concluding remarks on the new volume. More details are available online.

Dougan’s Article Published in Quarterly
Dr. Michael Dougan, emeritus professor of history, continues his research in retirement. His article, “Jonesboro Newspaper Wars,” was published in a recent edition of the Craighead County Historical Quarterly. Dougan analyzed how the competing newspapers, the Sun and the Tribune, covered two events in Jonesboro’s history: an attempt by a private company to acquire City Water and Light, and a major clash that developed among city church leaders. The Tribune closed around 1942.
