Dr. Alexandr Sokolov (right), assistant professor of engineering management and program director, and Dr. Niamat Hossain, assistant professor of engineering management, had nine peer-reviewed proceedings accepted for publication by the American Society of Engineering Management annual conference. Among the topics were analysis procedures for wastewater treatment plants; improving reliability indices for power distribution systems; and concurrent engineering’s functional role in manufacturing medical robotics.

A new book by Dr. Justin Castro, professor of history and department chair, has been published by the University of Pittsburgh Press. Castro co-edited the book, Technocratic Visions: Engineers, Technology, and Society in Mexico, with a colleague at Nebraska. The book examines the context and societal consequences of technologies, technocratic governance, and development in Mexico, home of the first professional engineering school in the Americas.

The 2022 group of Northeast Arkansas Women in Business award winners includes Laura Miller, director, Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center at A-State. Dr. Andrew D. Sweet, assistant professor of evolutionary biology, was one of the co-organizers of a symposium at the Congress of the European Society for Evolutionary Biology in Prague, Czech Republic. The symposium, which attracted approximately 1,800 attendees, highlighted some of the latest research on host-symbiont co-evolution, including work from genetics, evolutionary biology, experimental biology and mathematical theory. The featured researchers represented 11 different countries.

An article by Dr. John Hall, professor, Dr. Meagan Medley, assistant professor, Dr. Kristin Johnson, assistant professor, and Dr. Wayne Wilkinson, associate professor, all in psychology and counseling, was published recently in the peer-reviewed Journal of School Psychology Training and Pedagogy. Their article concerns the assessment of candidates’ professional dispositions and work characteristics, which has recently become an important requirement for advanced programs accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation and is also necessary for program approval by the National Association of School Psychologists.
