Congratulations to Dr. Bert Greenwalt, professor of agricultural economics, whose selection to the Arkansas Agriculture Hall of Fame was announced last week. Founded in 1987, the Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have given exemplary leadership and made major contributions to the state’s largest industry. Among his many achievements, Greenwalt has directed A-State’s Agribusiness Conference from its inception; the 29th edition will be Feb. 8.

Dr. Bronwyn MacFarlane, assistant professor in educational leadership, made two presentations for the National Association for Gifted Children annual convention in Indianapolis. One session focused on “Teaching Confidence, Resilience, and Empathy in Times of Conflict,” and the second, “Social-Emotional Learning in Early Childhood: Practical Strategies for Families and Educators,” included ideas from her new book, Social and Emotional Learning for Advanced Children in Early Childhood.

Two articles co-authored by Dr. Niamat Hossain, assistant professor of engineering management, have been published. The first, “A decision support model to assess organizational resilience in the textile industry,” was published in the International Journal of Management Science and Engineering Management. Hossain is corresponding author of the second article, “Modeling and Analysis of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle System Leveraging Systems Modeling Language (SysML),” published in Systems.

Dr. Justin Castro, professor of history and department chair, was invited by the Consortium for History of Science, Technology and Medicine's (CHSTM) engineering working group to discuss his most recent book, Technocratic Visions: Engineers, Technology and Society in Mexico. The consortium brings together experts in their fields and prominent educational, cultural and research institutions that focus on the history of science, technology and medicine.

Claire Abernathy (left) and Jeff McLaughlin (right), associate professors of theatre, served as designers for The Link Theatre Company's production of “She Loves Me,” which was presented in December. Abernathy designed the costumes, while McLaughlin designed the scenery and properties. In addition, they collaborated on the lighting design. The Link Theatre Company, which creates cultural enrichment experiences for its audiences, engages Broadway, university and regional talent.
