Dr. Loretta McGregor, professor of psychology, has begun her year as national president of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology, a 3,600-member organization. Her work for the organization will follow her theme of “Cultivating the next generation of psychology educators,” including giving current students encouragement to become an educator. Dr. Anahita Izadyar, associate professor of chemistry, has been invited to review for the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program for the second time. NSF reviewers provide helpful advice to NSF program officers on specific grant proposals and offer constructive comments to applicants. Also, Izadyar received a grant from the Faculty Research Fund for using a disposable sensor to detect the concentration of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

A recent article in Bloomberg News includes comments from Dr. Hrishikesh Desai, assistant professor of accounting and director of the Master of Accountancy with Data Analytics degree program. Desai answered questions about the accounting profession’s “big four” firms and the personnel decisions they have made in response to clients’ adjustments to changes in the economy, including project delays and interest rates. Todd Sanders (left), assistant professor of occupational therapy, and Dr. Amanda Carpenter (right), assistant professor of public health and program director, have an article forthcoming in the Journal of Occupational Therapy Education. After surveying fieldwork educators regarding changes in a student evaluation, they found differences in attitudes and perceptions based on student level (undergraduate or graduate) and fieldwork educator experience. They recommend additional research to examine evaluation effectiveness.

Galen Perkins, instructor in creative media production, was recently appointed to the board of directors for College Broadcasters Inc., and is now board secretary. CBI, a member-driven organization serving students and advisers of student media, fosters experiential learning, professional opportunities and advocacy for student media programs. Perkins’ areas of interest include videography, broadcast graphics, live event production, video streaming and multi-platform content delivery.
