Saleh Writes Chapters and Co-Edits Book
Dr. Amany Saleh, professor of curriculum and instruction, Center for Excellence in Education, is the author of two chapters and co-editor of a new book, titled The International Handbook of French Education: Language Learning, Teaching and Advocacy. The book promotes French language in the United States and provides innovative ideas for teaching and advocating for French education as many language programs experience budgetary cuts and lack of public support.

Zhang’s Research Published in Top Journal
Dr. Chiqian Zhang, assistant professor of civil engineering, is the lead author of a pioneering study to assess the impact of a chlorine burn on opportunistic pathogens in a full-scale engineered water system. The article, in Science of the Total Environment, considered the various causes of nitrification, which deteriorates drinking water quality, and the need to control it. His conclusion is that the practice of using chlorine burn should be reevaluated, upgraded and optimized.

Miller is Named Capital Acquisition Star
Laura Miller, director of the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center (ASBTDC) at A-State, was recognized by the state ASBTDC during the spring network meeting in Little Rock. She earned the Capital Acquisition Star award for assisting clients with securing more than $30 million in capital investment. The honor recognizes the consultant with the highest dollar amount of loans and other capital funding reported by their clients last year.

Fleming Appointed to Professional Committee
Dr. Robert (Drew) Fleming, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, has been appointed to a five-year term on the ASME Tribology Division executive committee. The division’s objective is to create, promote and disseminate knowledge in the field of tribology, the scientific study of friction, mechanical adhesion and wear. It conducts a monthly webinar. Also, he was named associate editor of the ASME Journal of Tribology through February 2029.

Desai is Co-Author of Accounting Research
Dr. Hrishikesh Desai, assistant professor of accounting and director of the MAcc program, co-authored a paper accepted for publication in the Meditari Accountancy Research journal. The co-author is a colleague from the University of Melbourne. They examine how managers make non-GAAP exclusion decisions depending on SEC regulatory guidance and their motivations. They found that detailed guidance leads to more appropriate exclusion decisions under a goal of informativeness, but no such evidence where the goal is opportunism.
