Hammon Receives Kays Foundation Grant
Dr. L. Todd Hammon, associate professor of nurse anesthesia and program director, has been approved for funding by the Kays Foundation to help provide simulation equipment more suitable for the 21st century student. He will use the $45,000 grant to assist with purchasing training equipment designed to provide more realistic scenarios, helping students learn procedures more quickly and to become more successful on their first attempts in the clinical area.

Stroud, Mohler and Carpenter Analyze Stress
An article by Dr. Ashley Stroud (left), assistant professor of occupational therapy, and lead author, Dr. Amanda Mohler, associate professor of occupational therapy, and Dr. Amanda Carpenter, assistant professor of public health, has been published in the Journal of Occupational Therapy Education. Based on the survey they conducted, their results can inform programming and education to emphasize healthy coping strategies and stress management for graduate students.

West and Luther Study Athletes’ Eating Habits
Eric West, assistant professor of dietetics, is co-author with Olivia Luther, a recent dietetics graduate, of an article published in Nutrition and Health. Luther and West describe a qualitative approach to the prevalence of disordered eating habits among female collegiate athletes. Their article examines external pressures that influence body image and performance and provides insights from athletes on how these issues can be addressed within athletic programs. Six Researchers Publish on Production of Novel Antibacterial
A paper by several faculty and students was recently published in the journal Plants. The study describes the production of malheuran A, a potent antimicrobial against bacteria that cause major infections in healthcare facilities. The first author is Dr. Amit Sharma, postdoctoral researcher working with Dr. Fabricio Medina-Bolivar, Arkansas Biosciences Institute. Other contributors are Gaurav Gajurel, a doctoral student in the molecular biology program, Salma Abdel-Karim, an undergraduate biological sciences student, Dr. Mohammad Abrar Alam, professor of chemistry, and Dr. Robert Shields, assistant professor of microbiology.

Esparza is Co-Founder of EconData Journal
Dr. Saúl A. Esparza Rodríguez, assistant professor of management and strategy, Campus Querétaro, is co-founder, along with an interdisciplinary group of international researchers, of a new scholarly journal, EconData. The journal is committed to the effective use of scientific knowledge as a tool for the sustainable transformation of society. The first issue also includes an article co-authored by Esparza, who also is research coordinator of CQ business programs. The journal is available online.
