Medina-Bolivar and Schmid Receive ARA Grant
Dr. Fabricio Medina-Bolivar (left), professor, and Dr. Edward (Ted) Schmid (right), assistant professor, Biological Sciences and the Arkansas Biosciences Institute, are collaborating on a groundbreaking project supported by an Arkansas Research Alliance $75,000 grant. Their research combines Medina-Bolivar’s expertise in producing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory plant extracts with Schmid’s use of fruit flies to model the aging process. They are investigating how phenolic-rich botanical extracts can promote healthy aging and prevent age-related diseases. Details are online.

Tetteh is Recognized for Career Excellence
Congratulations to Dr. Dinah Tetteh, associate professor of communication studies and Vaughn Endowed Professor, on her selection as recipient of the 2025 Michael M. Osborn Teacher-Scholar Award. The award, which recognizes Southern States Communication Association (SSCA) members who have balanced professional careers, having achieved excellence in teaching, scholarship and service. She was nominated for the award, which was presented at the SSCA convention in Norfolk, Va.

Folsom Addresses National Conference
Dr. Audrey Folsom, assistant professor of clinical lab sciences and director of the program, was a speaker at the Clinical Lab Educators Conference conducted recently in Atlanta by the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science. Her session, “Teaching Quality Control Principles in the Clinical Chemistry Lab,” covered how to include quality control (QC) exercises within clinical chemistry labs to increase students’ competence around QC principles.

Brown Writes Chapter for Upcoming Book
Dr. Angelo Brown, assistant professor of criminology, is author of a chapter in the forthcoming publication Routledge Companion to Gender and Crime, which will be published in July. His chapter topic is “Policing LGBTQ+ Communities.” He also recently addressed the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences annual meeting on the law, culture and technology factors that contribute to Abu Dhabi’s status as the safest city in the world.
