Biological Safety
Biological Safety requirements are outlined in the Biological Safety Manual. The Biological Safety Manual is reviewed by the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) periodically. Work with human cells and other human derived materials is safely conducted using the guidance provided in the Exposure Control Plan.
The management of biological waste is also a part of biological safety. Some biological waste, such as sharps containers, is managed by using the Biological Waste Pickup Request. Waste that is managed in the lab (by autoclaving or bleaching) may need to be recorded on a log. The Biological Safety Manual gives more details and training is available to explain the different types of biological waste.
