To aid in the prevention of theft, we encourage anyone that uses a wireless device on campus utilizing the ASTATE internet infrastructure to fill out the form below. This data may help us in locating a computer should it be reported as stolen.
You will need to know the name of your device as well as any and all MAC addresses that are associated with them. The MAC address is a 12 digit alphanumeric number in the following format: 00:00:00:00:00:E0
Below are instructions on finding this information.
Windows XP
1. Click the Start button, then select Run.
2. Type cmd in the text field.
3. A window will open. In this window type ipconfig/all and then hit enter.
4. A block of information will appear. You may have to scroll up to retrieve some of the data. The host name will be at the top followed by a Physical Address for each adapter on your computer. Enter each physical address below.
Vista and Windows 7
1. Click the Start button and type cmd in the search box. Press enter.
2. A window will open. In this window type ipconfig/all and then hit enter.
3. A block of information will appear. You may have to scroll up to retrieve some of the data. The host name will be at the top followed by a Physical Address for each adapter on your computer. Enter each physical address below.
Mac OSX
1. Click on the Apple Menu, and choose the Location menu item.
2. Click on Network Preferences.
3. Click on the Show menu and choose the AirPort or Ethernet item
4. The Airport ID and Ethernet ID are your MAC addresses.
Linux
1. In a terminal window type ifconfig and press enter.
2. You will see a list of interfaces. Your wireless interface will likely be named wlan0 or wifi0. The wireless MAC address will be in the field labeled HWaddr.
3. You can also use iwconfig to find your wireless MAC address if you have it installed.
Iphone/Ipad
1. Click on Settings
2. Select General
3. Select About
4. Scroll down and you will see the WI FI address
