The PROPS program includes a monthly profile of an A-State staff member that works every day behind the scenes to improve Arkansas State University… because EVERY Red Wolf Counts!
Staff members are selected from a pool of candidates that is created from the PROPS nomination form.
Donna McMillin
Donna McMillin was nominated by Janet Moore for P.R.O.P.S. recognition. Janet said “Donna works tirelessly behind the scenes for A-State. She is constantly looking for ways to stretch the budget to offer the best use of the limited funds that we receive. She wears the "University Cap" not the "Department Cap" and looks at the overall impact when making decisions and recommendations.”
P.R.O.P.S. subcommittee members LaVonda Evans, Cathy Naylor, Kelly Sabin, and Greg Umhoefer spoke with Donna recently to learn more about her and her experience at A-State.
If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
I would love to see the northern lights. That is one of the places on my bucket list and anywhere with a beach. The beach is very calming to me and makes me realize how small I really am. It also is a stress reliever and the most relaxing place ever.
What is your most prized possession?
It’s not really a possession, I guess, but it’s my family. I have one daughter and a son-in- law and two wonderful grandchildren. Being a grandparent is the best job in the world! That’s not a possession but it’s my most prized thing in this world.
What is the most recent show you have binge watched?
Yellowstone and 1923.
What is our favorite thing about A-State?
It’s home to me. I have been here a really long time. It’s the employees and the family atmosphere. A-State has been good to my whole family. My husband, daughter, son-in-law and I have all received degrees from A-State.
Do you have a favorite quote or saying?
I live by “Do unto others as I would have them do unto me.” That’s my motto. Also: “it’s not your aptitude that determines your altitude, it’s your attitude.” Try to have a good attitude when challenges come around and that can go a long way in growing you personally and professionally.
In school, what were you most known for?
I was probably known for being friendly to everyone and caring.
What is one thing you wish you could teach everyone about your role on campus?
When we print the budget and present it to the board, my job does not end there. It’s an everyday, all-year long challenge - monitoring the budget and planning for the new year. It’s very stressful. I care about what I do and I try to do it the best way I can.
What is your favorite hobby?
My grandkids! I don’t really have a hobby except playing with them. I like to do crafty things too but I don’t have a lot of time for that.
