Clinical Laboratory Sciences

Clinical laboratory scientists are academically prepared to perform a variety of analyses which aid the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Communication Disorders

A speech-language pathologist is a skilled professional that provides a variety of prevention, evaluation, and intervention services to individuals who are at-risk for or are exhibiting symptoms of speech, language, and/or swallowing disorders.

Health Sciences and Risk Management

The Department of Health Sciences and Risk Management focuses on promoting public health through interdisciplinary research, education, and strategies aimed at identifying, assessing, and mitigating health risks.

Medical Imaging & Radiation Sciences

Medical imaging professionals facilitate patient diagnosis and management through the creation of medical images using X-rays, ultrasound and magnetic resonance. They play a pivotal role in selecting and implementing the most appropriate examination protocols which will answer the clinical question.

Occupational Therapy

Professionals assist people across the lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities (occupations).

Physical Therapy

Physical therapists are highly-educated, licensed health care professionals who can help patients reduce pain and improve or restore mobility - in many cases without expensive surgery and often reducing the need for long-term use of prescription medications and their side effects.

Social Work

There are two main types of social workers: direct-service social workers, who help people solve and cope with problems in their everyday lives, and clinical social workers, who diagnose and treat mental, behavioral, and emotional issues.

Programs

Athletic Training 

 The mission of the Master of Athletic Training (MAT) Program at Arkansas State University is to educate athletic training professionals to deliver patient-centered care as members of an interdisciplinary team emphasizing evidence-based practice, and to enhance and enrich the quality of life of all individuals and communities in the Mississippi Delta region who encounter A-State Athletic Training faculty, staff and alumni.

Coordinated Program in Dietetics

Registered dietitians are considered food and nutrition experts. They work in a wide variety of settings, including healthcare facilities, food & nutrition-related business, sports nutrition & wellness programs, community & public health, education, research areas and private practice.

Health Studies

The Bachelor of Science in Health Studies degree serves a three-fold purpose for students that are:

  1. Planning to seek employment in a health or health related area upon graduation;
  2. Desiring a bachelor’s degree following an associate’s degree in health disciplines and
  3. Planning a health career that requires a post-baccalaureate plan of study.

This degree does not lead to a professional credential or state licensure. It does prepare students for roles in community health, support services, health care navigation, claims services, medical sales and patient services. Online certification is available in some areas such as compliance officer, health advocate and coding specialist.

Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health

The Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health is an interdisciplinary program that will prepare students to become general practitioners in a variety of fields such as occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental health.

Public Health 

The Bachelor of Science in Public Health degree will prepare graduates to work in various fields related to improving the health and well-being of communities. Students will learn about the causes and prevention of diseases, the promotion of healthy behaviors, the design and evaluation of health programs, and the policies and practices that affect public health.
