Scholarships

A-State College of Engineering and Computer Science (CoECS) has a number of privately funded scholarships available for students enrolled in a degree plan within our college. All scholarships are for full-time students with a declared major in CoECS and attending the A-State campus. Most scholarship awards are split between the fall and spring semesters. The majors in the college are

Criteria for each scholarship are listed below the title.  Privately funded Engineering and Computer Science scholarships are administered through our office. Application Process

Deadlines for 2025-2026; ALL students and incoming freshmen should complete the Privately Funded Scholarship Application by February 1, 2025, at 5:00 PM CST.

Important!

All applying students must:

  • Declared major in CoECS.
  • Select College of Engineering and Computer Science as your home college in scholarship portal. Failing to do so may delay your application.

Your application will be prioritized with the following:

  • Personal Statement (1 page only) describing major choice, career goals, financial need, and reason for, if any, specifically interested scholarship

Privately Funded Scholarships

Dean’s Freshman Excellence Scholarship

  1. Full-time student.
  2. Minimum ACT of 21, or high school GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  3. Incoming freshman with a declared major in the College of Engineering and Computer Science. The student will forfeit the award if the declared major at the time of registration for classes in the first semester is not in the College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Automation Outfitters Scholarship

  1. Full time student.
  2. Junior level student.
  3. Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  4. Electrical Engineering student.

Camfil Farr APC Engineering Endowment Scholarship

  1. Overall GPA 2.75
  2. Major GPA 3.25
  3. Prefer upper-level student sophomore to Senior.
  4. Mechanical or electrical engineering major (they prefer mechanical over electrical)

College of Engineering and Computer Science Scholarship

  1. Entering freshmen will have priority, and be in the upper 12 percent of their high school graduating class.
  2. Upperclassmen must have overall GPA of 3.0 or better with 30-80 credit hours or 3.5 GPA with 80 or above credit hours.

General Cable Endowed Engineering Scholarship

  1. Full time student at A-State.
  2. Juniors or senior full time engineering major with a 3.0 GPA.
  3. Must have 60 plus hours to apply.

Jonathan Barfield Memorial Scholarship

  1. Full time student at A-State.
  2. Upper level student (junior or senior).
  3. 3.0 GPA.
  4. Engineering major.
  5. Active within any A-State fraternity or sorority.
  6. Essay required with each application.

Qualifications For Maintaining The Scholarship:
Current recipient is eligible but must reapply.

Denso Engineering Endowed Scholarship

  1. Full-time student at A-State.
  2. Student must be an Engineering major.
  3. Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  4. Must be an upper level student with a minimum of 60 hours.

Hytrol Conveyors Scholarship

  1. Full-time student majoring in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  2. In addition to having an overall GPA of 3.0 or greater, the student must meet at least one of the following criteria:
  3. Work as a paid intern for the duration of the scholarship (10-20 hours per week, with the understanding that flexibility in the schedule is expected)
  4. Active participation on a national level engineering contest team sponsored by the School of Engineering with preference given to a materials handling contest
  5. Work as an unpaid research assistant for a member of the faculty of the School of Engineering with preference given to research projects within materials handling. (10-20 hours per week)
  6. Maintenance of a course load within the School of Engineering in excess of 35 credit hours or more for the current and immediately preceding semesters.

Tom Loberg Memorial Scholarship

  1. The award shall be available to students of junior or senior status, in good standing, who are enrolled for a minimum of six (6) credit hours, with a minimum grade point average of 3.0.
  2. First preference shall be given to students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Engineering with Professional Concentration in Mechanical Engineering; or, if no student qualifies who is pursuing the Mechanical Engineering degree, the award may go to an otherwise qualified student pursuing any undergraduate degree in the College of Engineering.
  3. Previous recipients are eligible to re-apply.

Gene and Irene Martz College of Engineering Scholarship

  1. Graduate of an Arkansas High School (or GED)
  2. Current Arkansas resident
  3. First Preference: incoming freshman in the top 10% of graduating class, or 23 ACT
  4. Must be an Electrical Engineer major
  5. Second Preference: sophomore level current ASU student with a 3.0 GPA

Scholarship is renewable through graduation based on full-time enrollment and maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Dr. Albert L. Mink Scholarship

  1. Student must be an incoming freshman who has an ACT of 23, or who is in the upper 10 percent of their high school class.
  2. Sophomore may be considered as alternative recipient.
  3. Student must be full-time engineering major with a 3.0 grade point average.
  4. Other factors to consider include financial need, number of dependents, semester hours and course content.

Dunn Mitts Family Scholarship

  1. Incoming freshman, must have ACT of 21 or above, or be in the upper 10% of graduating class.
  2. Sophomore, junior and senior level students must have a 3.0 GPA.
  3. Other factors considered are financial need, number of dependents, semester hours completed and potential for success in obtaining a degree in engineering.

Olympus Construction, Inc., Scholarship

  1. Full-time student and resident of State of Arkansas
  2. Must be majoring in any field of Engineering
  3. Completed a minimum of 60 credit hours with a GPA of 3.0

Pickering Firm Inc. Civil Engineering Scholarship

  1. Full-time student at A-State
  2. Junior or Senior level student majoring in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical or Electrical)
  3. Minimum GPA 3.0
  4. Must have 60 plus hours to apply

Danny Scott Memorial Scholarship

  1. Incoming Freshman, must have either an ACT composite score of 23 or be in the upper 10% of graduating class and enter the engineering program as a full-time student
  2. Sophomores, Junior, and Seniors may apply, provided are full-time engineering majors with a 2.5 GPA or above
  3. Other factors considered are financial need, number of dependents, semester hours and course content

Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Scholarship

  1. Full-time student majoring in technical areas that would qualify them for membership in the student or senior chapter of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers
  2. Must be an active member of the SME Student Chapter (S201) at Arkansas State University or the Senior Chapter (246)
  3. Applications will be judged on the basis of SME participation, GPA, student status, honors, community activities and financial need

Jim and Carole Stevens Engineering Scholarship

  1. Full-time engineering major with a 3.0 GPA
  2. Citizen of the United States

Scholarship may be renewed provided recipient continues to meet criteria.

Tokusen U.S.A., Inc. Endowment Fund

  1. First preference shall be given to full-time engineering students, in good academic standing, transferring to A-State from the University of Central Arkansas.
  2. In the event that no transfer students qualify as eligible, the selection of a recipient shall be made by a committee appointed by the Dean of the College of Engineering.

Martin Sprocket & Gear Engineering Scholarship

  1. Full-time student at A-State
  2. Junior or Senior full-time engineering major with a 3.0 GPA
  3. Must have 60+ hours

Upward Bound Women in Engineering Scholarship

  1. Full-time student.
  2. Female majoring in engineering

You Can Do This Scholarship Endowment

  1. Full time student at A-State
  2. Incoming freshmen through seniors are eligible to apply
  3. Minimum 2.0 GPA
  4. Preference given to students who are raising children while attending school in the College of Engineering and Computer Science
  5. Other non-traditional students may be considered if no applicants meet the preceding preference
