University College promotes the academic success of all Arkansas State University undergraduate students through a supportive environment of community and academic services. University College has a steadfast commitment to provide the campus community with best practices in academic advising, academic skills instruction, learning support services, unconventional degree opportunities, and promotion of college complete through our continual assessment process and review of national trends/research.

Developing Critical Thinkers

University College seeks to develop critical thinkers who embrace cultural diversity, evolve with modern technology and communicate effectively. We offer comprehensive advising and mentoring support services to all first-year students, undeclared majors, and special student populations.

Making Connections

All first year students enroll in a Making Connections course. This three-credit course is designed to help students make a successful transition into college by connecting students with their major, college peers and a faculty mentor. There are many sections offered within the various academic disciplines at A-State including a honor and undecided sections. While each course has a special emphasis on the students’ academic discipline, all sections include a common core including campus resources, A-State policies, learning techniques, critical thinking skills, and degree information.

Interdisciplinary Studies

University College offers an Interdisciplinary Studies major to those seeking the flexibility to select a course of study from a wide array of disciplines.  The program attempts to provide the most challenging education possible, both to the academically gifted and to the creative student.  Students are empowered with the ability to chart a personal course of study that will enable them to reach their educational and vocational goals. Graduates are prepared to address real world problems due to their ability to analyze issues using knowledge and understanding from multiple disciplines.
