Arkansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine may accept transfer students. The Admissions Committee categories transfer student applicants based upon the previous College of Veterinary Medicine academic standing, and the number of semesters completed as outlined below.
Prospective DVM Transfer Students in Good Academic Standing
A-State CVM will consider transfer students in good standing to fill available seats in the preclinical program, provided the prospective transfer students meet the following criteria:
- Enrolled at a veterinary college accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council of Education (AVMA COE) or the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS)
- Must have earned a grade of C or higher in all DVM courses, including any courses which were in-progress at the time of application.
Prospective transfer students must contact the Office of Admissions, Student Programs, and Research at VetMed@astate.edu and provide the reason(s) for requesting transfer; desired date of transfer; and class and semester of the curriculum into which the transfer is requested. If a potential vacancy exists, the Office of Admissions, Student Programs, and Research may provide the prospective transfer student a link to access the Slate transfer application. This does not guarantee admission, only consideration for admission.
Prospective DVM Transfer Students on Academic Probation or Dismissed for Unsatisfactory Academic Progress
Not eligible for transfer:
A-State CVM will not accept transfer applications from students who were on academic probation or were dismissed during:
- Semesters 1-4 of a 4-year program, or
- Semesters 1-5 of a 3- or 3.25-year program
Potentially eligible for transfer:
A-State CVM will consider transfer applications who are on academic probation or were dismissed during:
- Semesters 5-6 of a 4-year program, or
- Semesters 6-7 of a 3- or 3.25-year program
These students must meet the following criteria:
- Enrolled at a veterinary college accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council of Education (AVMA COE) or the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS)
- Must be enrolled in an AVMA COE- or RCVS-accredited veterinary school.
- Must not have repeated two or more individual courses before the dismissal or probation.
If these requirements are not met, then the prospective student is not eligible for transfer. Prospective transfer students who meet these criteria must contact the Office of Admissions, Students, and Research at VetMed@astate.edu and provide the reason(s) for requesting transfer; desired date of transfer; and class and semester of the curriculum into which the transfer is requested. If a potential vacancy exists, the Office of Admissions, Student Programs, and Research may provide the prospective transfer student a link to access the Slate transfer application. This does not guarantee admission, only consideration for admission.
