College: College of Liberal Arts & Communication
Department: English and PhilosophyCareers
The study of literature has always been at the heart of the liberal arts curriculum. Such study strengthens students' understanding of the fascinating complexity of human conduct. It also sharpens skills in analytic reading, strengthens writing ability, and ensures facility in library research-all of which are skills highly valued by employers. A degree in English provides a broad preparation for life, and English majors are increasingly sought as teachers, as students in law schools and other professional schools, as newspaper reporters and as management trainees. Our students find the study of literature to be fun, fulfilling, and practical.
