11th Annual 'Create@State' Begins Monday with 200 Presentations Scheduled
JONESBORO — Arkansas State University students will share their research and creative activity again this year through the 11th annual Create@State Symposium, a spring semester hallmark at A-State since 2011.
"Create@State: A Symposium of Research, Scholarship & Creativity," is reaching the campus and the public across the region by livestream on Create@State's YouTube channel and through Suddenlink cable system, with production by ASU-TV.
The virtual symposium, Monday through Wednesday, April 19-21, will feature more than 200 presentations, including oral, poster, creative, and sales pitches, by approximately 220 undergraduate and graduate student presenters.
College of Nursing and Health Professions students will make their presentations Monday, followed on Tuesday by the College of Sciences and Mathematics, College of Education and Behavioral Science, and College of Liberal Arts and Communication.
Students from the College of Agriculture, College of Engineering and Computer Science, and Neil Griffin College of Business will make presentations Wednesday. Sessions start at 12:30 p.m. each day.
Prominent external stakeholders and alumni will serve as volunteer judges, with awards to be announced during a livestreamed awards celebration at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 22, according to Jessica Blackburn, director of foundation and corporate engagement in University Advancement, who is coordinating the event.
Create@State showcases the faculty-mentored works of high-achieving students from across all the university’s colleges and disciplines.
"This symposium represents the annual culminating event of A-State’s Create@State program, which enhances opportunity throughout the year for student research and creativity and enriches co-curricular learning experiences in all disciplines," stated Dr. Tom Risch, vice provost for Research and Technology Transfer. “The past year has caused our world to change at a rapid pace. By adapting to our current situation, our students are well-suited to become some of the leading architects of our ever-changing world.”
The program is a culmination of collaborative efforts by faculty mentors, chairs and deans of each of the colleges, working with Research and Technology Transfer along with University Advancement, KASU, ASU-TV, Marketing and Creative Services, Blackboard Support, the Student Research and Philanthropy Councils, and Assessment.
"The student works you will see this week are a testament to A-State’s strong mentorship and inclusivity provided by outstanding faculty research and creativity mentors," Risch added.
Suddenlink cable systems in several communities carry ASU-TV, including channel 18 in Jonesboro. Interested individuals may access the presentations later and the awards ceremony at YouTube.com/CreateatState.
