JONESBORO, Ark. — Winners of the Arkansas State University freshman writing competition for 2013 were recently announced by the Department of English and Philosophy.
Of 1,874 students who took English Composition in 2012, only 930 were invited to participate in the writing contest. These students are examples of Arkansas State carrying out its mission to educate leaders, enhance intellectual growth, and enrich lives. The following students placed in the top three:
Elise Young of Jonesboro received $100 for first place. She is the daughter of Mike and Deb Young.
The second place prize of $75 went to Brett Welch of Jonesboro. Welch is the son of Gina Powell.
Bethany Gallimore of Pearcy/Hot Springs, won the third place prize of $50. She is a Communication Studies major. Her mother is Rita Gallimore.
Students must be nominated by their English composition instructor to participate in the annual writing contest.
