A-State Artist Collecting News Clippings and Owners’ Stories for Exhibition
JONESBORO – For his upcoming exhibition “Disappearing Ink,” John J. Salvest, professor of art at Arkansas State University, is searching out newspaper clippings and other printed memorabilia and the owners’ stories as to why they have retained the items.
The exhibition will open at the Art Museum of the University of Memphis on April 4.
In preparation, Salvest will conduct a collection event Friday, March 7, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the offices of the Jonesboro Sun, 518 Carson St., for the convenience of contributors in this area. Salvest said The Sun has generously agreed to serve as a local collection point.
Jason Miller, a museum media specialist, will be present to assist those submitting items and to help collect information about them. The museum is requesting that each participant provide a written statement explaining the personal significance of his or her contribution to the project.
All items will be on loan to the museum, and will be returned upon completion of the exhibition.
