A-State Athletics to Hold Homecoming Bonfire, Thursday, Oct. 10
JONESBORO – Working alongside several Arkansas State University entities, including the Student Government Association (SGA), and the Jonesboro Fire Department, the Red Wolves’ Athletics Department has announced it is bringing back its homecoming bonfire tradition Thursday night, Oct. 10, at 8:30 p.m. on the University campus.
The bonfire will be held just off University Loop Drive across from the Pi Kappa Alpha and Kappa Alpha fraternity houses. The Red Wolves’ football team will face Idaho Saturday at 6 p.m. at Liberty Bank Stadium in its 2013 homecoming game.
“This has been a great tradition A-State fans have rallied behind in the past,” said Mickey Ryan, Associate Athletics Director for External Relations. “We think this will be something our fans, students and alumni will support and enjoy, so we are excited to renew that tradition as part of our homecoming festivities.”
East Arkansas Broadcasters’ 107.9 FM KFIN and 101.7 FM KISS will both have remote vehicles on location as part of the festivities. The A-State spirit squads and members of the football team will also be in attendance to go along with a speaking appearance by head football coach Bryan Harsin.
“I've been working closely with (Director of Athletics) Terry Mohajir, (Executive Director of the Red Wolves Foundation) Carter Ford and Mickey Ryan to help enhance new athletics traditions here at A-State,” said SGA President D’andre Anderson. “I personally believe the bonfire will be a great tradition for years to come and will only get bigger and bigger. Homecoming is a week of excitement and our football team feeds off the energy of our students. Having this bonfire Thursday before the homecoming game will get students fired up for Saturday when Idaho comes to town.”
The Red Wolves have won nine of their last 10 homecoming games, including the last two in a row, dating back to the 2003 season. A-State had a seven-game winning streak on its homecoming snapped in 2010 against Louisville, but has since knocked off North Texas 37-14 in 2011 and South Alabama 36-29 last season.
Season tickets for A-State’s four remaining home games and individual game tickets can be purchased through the Arkansas State University Ticket Office, located in the Convocation Center. To purchase tickets, call the ticket office at 870-972-2781 or visit tickets.astate.edu.
