A-State Collaborating with City Groups in Oasis Arts Festival
JONESBORO – The Oasis Arts Festival, April 6-7, is a collaboration involving the Foundation of Arts, the Downtown Jonesboro Association, and Arkansas State University's Department of Art and Design, Fowler Center and Bradbury Art Museum.
This year's event is the inaugural edition of the multi-genre festival, organized to celebrate the arts in Northeast Arkansas.
The Department of Art and Design will open the Fine Arts Center Gallery (GPS 2412 Quapaw Way) from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday, April 6. The annual exhibition of numerous works by members of the Art Student Union at A-State is currently on display. Tours of the exhibition will be offered at 2 p.m. on both days of the festival, according to Dr. Temma Balducci, department chair.
The Bradbury Art Museum, a contemporary art facility in Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Dr., will participate in the festival by featuring the exhibition "Everything is Going to be Alright." This fun, interactive and uplifting show exhibits the artwork of Courtney Egan, Charley Friedman, Barbara F. Kendrick, Anne Austin Pearce and Andy Warhol.
BAM hours during the Oasis Arts Festival will be noon until 5 p.m. The museum staff also will host public tours both days, starting at 1 p.m., according to Shannon Smithee, education curator.
There is no admission fee for the gallery or the museum.
Fowler Center will present renowned acoustic guitarist Andy McKee in concert Friday, April 6, at 7:30 p.m., as part of the festival. Tickets are available through A-State's Central Box Office at First National Bank Arena, 217 Olympic Dr., or online at AState.edu/tickets.
Festival activities will involve various businesses in downtown Jonesboro, including displays of local artists' work and performing artists. The Foundation of Arts plans to have an app, Guidebook, available on Tuesday, April 3, that will show maps, times, artists' names and participating businesses.
