JONESBORO — Connor May, an Agriculture Business major at Arkansas State University, is the recipient of the Kelsey Hall/Brown Lacy Excellence in Agriculture Memorial Scholarship. May, of Jonesboro, was recently awarded the scholarship by Evan Hall, a member of the Hall family.

The endowment was established to honor the memory of Kelsey Hall and Brown Lacy, both highly respected in the Jonesboro community and the agriculture business.  The award goes to a student majoring in agriculture business.

May is a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and Future Farmers of America, which he has served as vice president, sentinel and forestry team member. He has also won the Star Farmer award, the leadership award and service award. He has a minor in Crop Consulting and Agronomic Services. 

 

Hall, who died in June 2007, was a farmer and a member of the Craighead County, Ark., Farm Bureau who was named the 2006 Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce Farmer of the Year. His family was named the 1993 Craighead County Farm Family of the Year. 

 

Lacy, a native of Jonesboro and graduate of Arkansas State, passed away in 2009. He was the co-manager of Lacy Family Farms in Egypt, Arkansas. He was a member of the Arkansas Bar Association and was committed to Northeast Arkansas and the business community, serving on the boards of Riceland Foods, Craighead Farmers Co-op, Cache River Drainage District, Craighead County Conservation District and Farm Bureau.
