A-State Students Awarded for Their Research and Innovation at Create@State

JONESBORO – The annual Create@State Symposium of Research, Scholarship and Creativity featured 154 presentations from Arkansas State University students.  
 
The symposium showcased faculty-mentored work done by high-achieving students from across the university’s seven colleges and the graduate school. As part of the awards, students presented with a College Award or InfoReady Award received a $250 stipend.  
 
Winners include students from the College of Agriculture, Neil Griffin College of Business, College of Engineering and Computer Science, College of Education and Behavioral Science, College of Liberal Arts and Communication, College of Nursing and Health Professions and Beck College of Sciences and Mathematics.
 
College of Agriculture 

Award for Graduate Poster Presentation 
Augusta native Jennifer Hinojosa, a plant and soil science graduate student, presented, “The Influence of Production Systems and Irrigation on Cotton Maturity and Yield,” with mentor Dr. Tina Teague, professor of entomology.
 

Award for Undergraduate Poster Presentation 
Agricultural business major Rachel Davis, a senior from Mammoth Spring, presented “Investigating the Impact of Soybean Cyst Nematode on Arkansas Soybean Production,” with mentor Dr. GwanSeon Kim, assistant professor of agricultural economics. 

Neil Griffin College of Business 

Award for Graduate Poster Presentation 
Bangladesh native Nahida Islam, an engineering management graduate student, presented, “Digits and Debits: Deciphering the Digital Discourse on Changes to the Accounting Profession and Certification Process.” Her mentor was Dr. Hrishikesh Desai, assistant professor of accounting.  
 
Award for Undergraduate Poster Presentation 
Junior finance major Seung Ho Jeon of South Korea presented, “Future = AI + Database: Proposing the Collective Academic Database to Manage AI in Academic Environment,” with mentor Dr. H. Steve Leslie, assistant professor of business communication.  

InfoReady Endowed Elevator Pitch Competition
Colton Godsey, a senior management major from Jonesboro, with his presentation, “The Climate Coat,” with mentor Dr. Hilary Schloemer, associate professor of management.

 
College of Education and Behavioral Science 
Award for Graduate Poster Presentation 
Educational leadership graduate student Marilyn Hunt from Wynne presented, “Perspectives of Novice Teachers to Prepare for and Work Equitably with Students with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder,” with mentor Dr. Timberly Baker, associate professor of educational leadership. 
 
Award for Undergraduate Poster Presentation 
Psychology majors Paige Cox, a senior from Bono; Sarah Hooker, a senior from Brookland; and Heidi Madsen, a senior from Prescott, Ariz., presented, "Online Dating Safety Practices,” with mentor Dr. Jessica Curtis, associate professor of psychology.  
 
College of Engineering and Computer Science  
Award for Graduate Poster Presentation 
Civil engineering graduate student Mohammad Sarfaraz Uddin from Khulna, Bangladesh, presented, “Air Content Variation in Concrete at Different Stages of its Lifecycle,” with mentor Dr. Zahid Hossain, professor of civil engineering.  
 
Award for Undergraduate Poster Presentation 
Jeannette Strano, a senior civil engineering major from Cherokee Village, presented, “Automation of a Robot Using Vision-Based systems,” with mentor Dr. Shivan Haran, associate professor of mechanical engineering.  
 
College of Liberal Arts and Communication  

Award for Graduate Poster Presentation 
Zinnia Sheikh, a graduate journalism student from Dhaka, Bangladesh, presented, “Portraying Female and Children in Israel and Palestine War,” with mentor Dr. Manu Bhandari, associate professor of strategic communication.  
 
Award for Undergraduate Poster Presentation 
Sophomore graphic design major Sharline Vanpelt of Cherry Valley, sophomore digital technology and design major Alex Holland of Bono, and junior digital technology and design major Cademon James Larmoy of Little Rock presented, “Can AI Benefit our Campus?” Their mentor was Leslie Parker, assistant professor of graphic design.  
 
College of Nursing and Health Professions 

Award for Graduate Poster Presentation 
Master of Athletic Training graduate students Presley Pierce of Manila and Jenna Love of Halls, Tenn., presented, “A Comparison of Pupillary Light Reflex Between Two Different Phone Apps,” with mentor Dr. Scott Bruce, associate professor of athletic training.  
 
Award for Undergraduate Poster Presentation 
Senior medical imaging and radiation sciences major Annalee Staton of Carlisle presented, “Navigating Precision Medicine: The Role of Robotics in CT-Guided Biopsies,” with mentor Dr. Jessica Cooper, assistant professor of medical imaging and radiation science.  

Beck College of Sciences and Mathematics  

Award for Graduate Poster Presentation 
Molecular biosciences graduate student Sankalpa Chakraborty, a native of Bengal, India, presented, “Novel Long Noncoding Rnas and Inflammatory Markers in Aging-Related Hypothyroid Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Function,” with mentor Dr. Viswanathan Rajagopalan, associate professor at the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine.  

Award for Undergraduate Poster Presentation 
A dual major in computer science and biotechnology, senior Emilio Soriano Chavez, a native of Mexico City, Mexico, presented, “Automated Similarity Analysis for Identification of Homologs in Bacterial Species,” with mentor Dr. Robert Shields, assistant professor of microbiology.
