A-State Summer Camp Academy Gets into Full Swing
JONESBORO – Arkansas State University's Summer Camp Academy gets into full swing Monday, June 10, as campers from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students get started.
This year's academy includes pre-K – 2nd grade camps, which are on the A-State campus and at Jonesboro Pre-K on Flint Street.
The A-State Summer Camp Academy for 2019 is organized into categories: STEM camps, arts academy camps, academic success strategies camps, and cooking, sporting, and gaming camps.
Camps will be held the last three weeks of June and the last three weeks in July.
A camp list with themes, topics, dates, times and other details is available online at AState.edu/youth.
Through a partnership with Suddenlink Communications, the Suddenlink Summer STEM Camps will be held in June and July.
The coding camp this year is led by faculty from the Department of Computer Science, in collaboration with Continental Utility Solutions, Inc., who will use drones to teach programming and actual testing of drones in flight on the final day of camp within an indoor enclosed facility. For the first time, a digital game design camp is planned, along with a medical camp with the assistance of the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine at A-State.
An Arts Academy includes the visual arts through Bradbury Art Museum, and the performing arts with choir and drama camps. Department of Art + Design students and Department of Teacher Education students are leading and assisting.
A new category this year is designed to meet student needs and lead to enhanced academic success: Camp Connections for children and youth identified as dyslexic or struggling readers, and Camp Explore A-State, which creates a focus on the value of learning, good grades and academic success in middle school, junior high, high school and transitioning to college.
Complete details about the camps, the registration process, and payment system through the A-State Marketplace Mall are available on the Summer Camp Academy website.
