A-State Theatre Announces Cast for Production of 'Mother Courage and Her Children'
JONESBORO – Arkansas State University Theatre announces the cast of the September production of "Mother Courage and Her Children" by Bertolt Brecht (English version by Eric Bentley).
Brecht’s masterpiece follows a woman trying to provide for herself and her children in a war-torn world. The story of her struggle to survive and protect what little she has is both universal and timeless.
The Arkansas State Theatre’s production is under the stage direction of Tim Bohn, associate professor of theatre.
"Mother Courage and Her Children" will be performed at Fowler Center Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26-27, and Monday through Wednesday, Sept. 29-Oct. 1, at 7:30 p.m. A “meet the company” dessert reception will follow the Friday, Sept. 26, opening night performance.
The Cast
Cast members are Virginia Hirsch, a junior theatre major from Cabot, as Mother Courage, David Holmquist, a freshman athletic training major from Little Rock, as Eilif, Davis Polston, a freshman theatre major from Searcy, as Swiss Cheese/Young Peasant, and Judith Beckham, a freshman theatre major from Cabot, as Kattrin.
Others are Tyler Gillespie, a sophomore theatre major from Dumas, as Recruiting Officer/Soldier, Luke Guntharp, a junior theatre major from Jonesboro, as Sergeant/Peasant, Clint Stevens, a senior theatre major from Huntsville, as Cook, and Jason Despain, a senior radio-television major and theatre minor from Jonesboro, as Commander/Colonel/Peasant.
In addition, the cast includes William Key, a senior theatre major from Cabot, as Chaplain, Charmaine Foster, a senior journalism major from Maumelle, as Ordinance Officer/Soldier, Dru Ergle, a senior theatre major from Jonesboro, as Yvette, Luis Chavez, a senior theatre and Spanish major from Jonesboro, as One-Eye/Soldier, and Sarah Ring, a senior theatre major of Cabot, as Clerk/Peasant/Young Man.
The other cast members are Justin Almager, a sophomore theatre major from El Dorado, as Young Soldier/Soldier, Katie Logan, a junior communication studies major from Cabot, as Peasant Woman/Old Woman/Sergeant, and Brooke Thomas, a junior theatre major from Jonesboro, as Lieutenant/Peasant/Soldier.
Production
Scenic/projection design will be by Jeff McLaughlin, assistant professor of theatre, and lighting design is by Cody Campbell, a senior theatre major from Jonesboro. Claire Abernathy, assistant professor of theatre, will serve as costume designer. Jacob George, a junior theatre major from El Dorado, will serve as sound designer.
Jeremy Smith, a junior theatre major from Dumas, will serve as wagon designer. Props master will be Vanessa Williams, a senior theatre major from North Little Rock. Mickey Yones, a junior theatre major from Rudy, has been appointed assistant lighting designer/board operator.
Erin Davis, a junior theatre major from Jacksonville, will serve as the master electrician/spotlight operator, Marie Bonds, a senior theatre major from Jonesboro, is serving as makeup crew head, Heidi Sohl, a sophomore theatre major from Alexander, will serve as wardrobe head, and prop carpenter will be Reagan Procter, a freshman theatre major from Jonesboro.
Paul Coulter, a junior theatre major from Cordova, Tenn., will be sound board operator and Emily Tucker, a sophomore theatre major from Jonesboro, will serve as projection operator. Jaelyn Epps, a senior theatre major from Little Rock, and Betsy Hegger, a junior theatre major from Jonesboro, are in the makeup crew.
Josh Donner, a senior theatre major from Mountain Home, Bethany Dorton, a freshman theatre major from Judsonia, and Elizabeth Daniels, a junior theatre major from Little Rock, are serving as the wardrobe crew. Renisha Parker, a freshman theatre major from Van Buren, will serve as the backstage crew.
Qassye Hall, a freshman theatre major from Russellville, and Alyssa Burleson, a freshman theatre major from North Little Rock, will serve as assistant stage managers. Stage management duties have been assigned to Ashley Pratt, a junior theatre major from El Dorado.
Tickets
Tickets may be purchased for reserved seating in advance at the Central Box Office in the Convocation Center or by calling 972-ASU1 (2781). Tickets are also available online at tickets.astate.edu. Reserved seating tickets (if available) may be purchased at the door on the evening of the performance. Ticket prices are $10 ($8 in advance). Advanced reservations are highly recommended.
Children under six years old are not admitted to ASU Theatre. Theatre patrons are asked to arrive early; latecomers will not be seated until intermission.
