A-State to Offer Digital Diplomas for all Graduates Starting this Fall
JONESBORO – Once a student has completed his or her education at Arkansas State University, their next challenge is landing their first job in their chosen field.
Crystal Blake, assistant director of records in the Registrar’s Office said in the past, students only needed to have a transcript when applying for jobs but more and more are being asked to provide a diploma as well.
From this point forward, students who receive any kind of credential from A-State, whether it be a certificate or diploma, will receive both a physical copy and a digital copy.
“This digital version of the diploma can be shared via all social media platforms, but most importantly, students can provide the digital version of the credential to potential employers. The digital version is certified and can be accessed from any device and location,” said Blake.
The digital diplomas are available through a partnership with Parchment, which is an industry leader in providing fast, easy, secure access to diplomas. This new service will be available to all graduating students at no additional cost.
“Students will receive an email allowing them to create a Parchment account. Upon their first login, students are prompted to update their email and physical mailing address. Once the student updates this information, they are immediately given their digital credential,” Blake added.
She said the printed version of the diploma would be mailed to the student within a few weeks of accepting the digital version. Adding this will be beneficial to all graduating students.
“A-State has many international students as well as online-only students. Our traditional students often move for employment after graduation. We wanted to offer our graduates a means to access their credentials no matter the time or place,” said Blake.
Blake said she has received calls from students seeking an immediate copy of their diploma, which is not something she could help with before now. Students will now be able to access their degrees anytime needed through the click of a button.
“It can really help a student who needs this diploma immediately for a job interview,” added Blake.
This will open doors for future employers and employees and could be game-changing for students.
“Graduates can access their documents via the Parchment website anytime, any place and from any device. The credential can be downloaded and saved for future use,” she continued.
While there are three commencement ceremonies held each year, there are seven times in the year where degrees are conferred. The first group of students to receive their digital diplomas were those who completed their educational requirements in October.
In addition to providing access to a digital diploma, A-State also offers digital transcripts through the National Student Clearinghouse. Digital resumes are available through SmartResume. This newest addition provides a graduating student with all of the credentials they have worked so hard to achieve at their fingertips.
