A-State to Remain Closed on Friday, Feb. 25

02/24/2022

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University is canceling all on-campus classes and closing all academic and business offices for Friday, Feb. 25. While crews made significant progress toward removal of ice and sleet on sidewalks and roads, sub-freezing temperatures, continuing freezing rain and overcast skies leave several areas still covered.

With a forecast for rising temperatures and clear skies for the weekend, all should plan for on-campus classes to resume on schedule and academic and business offices to reopen on Monday, Feb. 28.

As a reminder to the campus community, while on-campus classes are canceled and regular business offices are not open, the campus is not closed. Essential personnel who maintain on-campus activities, including University Housing and Facilities Management, will report to work. Employees who are uncertain about their status as “essential personnel” are encouraged to check with their supervisor.

Campus dining services will operate on brunch hours at Acansa Dining Hall for Friday, Feb. 25, and the Reng Student Union will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. There will be limited retail dining areas open Friday in the union, and there will be no on-campus delivery due to icy conditions.

Several on-campus events set for Friday, Feb. 25, have been postponed due to the on-going winter weather, including the College of Engineering and Computer Science Open House and the Red Wolves Rising recruiting event. The Political Animals event set for the Hames Room at First National Bank Arena is canceled. Check the official A-State web page or Calendar.AState.edu for rescheduled dates and other event updates.

Along with the union, the Red W.O.L.F. Center and Dean B. Ellis Library will open on Friday to support on-campus residents from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Both anticipate reopening with regular hours on Saturday if conditions improve. Check the web pages for each for weekend updates.

Saturday events including the Living Legends Reception as a part of the Black History Month Celebration and the A-State Rugby match versus Life University are on. The only Saturday postponement at this time is the College of Agriculture’s Preview Day.

For A-State Online students and instructors, classes continue on as usual. However, this is a major winter storm that will roll across the nation. The AOS team is asking instructors to consider giving students extra time to complete their online coursework.

Please check the A-State official website, AState.edu, your A-State-issued email address, our official main social media, and our official student app for updates on conditions.
