ACBC BioBlitz Scheduled for October 7
JONESBORO – The Arkansas Center for Biodiversity Collections, located on the Arkansas State University campus, will host the second-annual ACBC BioBlitz Saturday, Oct. 7, at Bearitage Farms near Cherry Valley.
A bioblitz is a concentrated biological survey in a designated area that attempts to record all the living species within that area. Scientists, naturalists and volunteers will work together to find and identify as many species of plants, animals, insects and other organisms as possible.
The bioblitz will begin at 7 a.m. with a three-hour morning trapping and netting session. At 10 a.m., a one-hour presentation on the history of Bearitage Farms will be held, followed by lunch. Afternoon hikes will run from noon until 3 p.m., and a show-and-tell session will be held from 3-5 p.m., to present and discuss the day’s findings.
Volunteers are asked to bring backpacks, sunscreen, binoculars, cameras and field guides. Suggested apparel includes hiking boots, hats and layered clothing.
Bearitage Farms is located at 218 County Road 204 near Cherry Valley. GPS coordinates are 35.438954, -90.804421.
